On an existential quest for the perfect brunch in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Until Bloglines can get its act together, I've moved my blogroll off the front page. For now, my blogroll is here.
This is priceless:
Some videos you just have to see to believe. On Thursday, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin appeared in Wasilla in order to pardon a local turkey in anticipation of Thanksgiving. This proved to be a slightly absurd but ultimately unremarkable event. But what came next was positively surreal. After the pardon Palin proceeded to do an interview with a local TV station while the turkeys were being SLAUGHTERED in the background!! Seemingly oblivious to the gruesomeness going on over her shoulder, she carries on talking for over three minutes.
Here's the video in question:
And that inevitably reminds me of this classic scene from "WKRP In Cincinnati:"
Which is more absurd?
You know I'm actually starting to have a soft spot for Sarah. After my convulsive belly laughing subsided I momentariy felt bad for the poor woman. But it passed quickly. Reminds me of George Bush this week treated like a leper at the G20. Did you see that one - almost too painful to watch.
Can you explain how that turkey-killing apparatus works? I don't get it - it looked like the turkey was already dead when it was placed into a funnel to let the blood drain. But then, didn't the turkey start flailing around - causing the guy to look sheepishly toward the camera? Maybe it was just stunned or anesthetized before hand and then it gets decapitated inside the funnel somehow?
Oh, to answer your question, the Palin clip was definitely more absurd. Coincidentally, Michael Palin invented that sketch and couldn't have done it better himself.
OMG, that IS priceless! That is my favorite episode of WKRP ever. :)
I'm pretty sure the turkeys were still alive in the first clip.
Revelator is right about the comparison to Bush at the G20. Both he and Palin are relics of a failed ideology, and I think both of them are finally realizing just how thoroughly they've been rejected by the mainstream. I doubt they'll ever understand how they've both become parodies of themselves.
Loved the video! Thanks for sharing.
